A neurologist is a medical doctor with specialized training in diagnosing, treating and managing disorders of the brain and nervous system. A neurologist’s educational background and medical training includes an undergraduate degree, four years of medical school, a medical internship, and three years of specialized training in neurology. Many neurologists have additional training in one area of neurology such as stroke, epilepsy, or movement disorders.
What is a Nurse Practitioner?
A Nurse Practitioner is a registered nurse (RN) who has advanced education and clinical training in a health care specialty, such as neurology. Nurse Practitioner’s practice under the Nurse Practice Act of the state in which they work. Most nurse practitioners are also nationally certified in their specialty area. Neurology Nurse Practitioners obtain patient histories, perform physical assessments, diagnose neurological disorders, order and interpret diagnostic tests, and prescribes medicines and treatments. They are recognized as expert health care providers.
